A lip flip and lip filler both make lips look fuller, but they work in completely different ways. A flip relaxes the muscle so your top lip rolls out slightly. Filler adds actual volume.
Which one makes sense depends on what you see when you smile, how much change you want, and how long you want it to last.
What a lip flip does
A lip flip uses a few units of Botox or Dysport placed along the upper lip border. The muscle relaxes just enough for the lip to turn outward, showing more of the pink part without adding volume.
- Best for: a top lip that disappears when you smile, or a subtle first step.
- Results: show over about a week and typically last 6 to 8 weeks.
- Downtime: none. Drinking from a straw may feel a little different for a few days.
What lip filler does
Lip filler is a hyaluronic acid gel placed into the lips to add volume, define the border, improve symmetry, or hydrate fine lines.
- Best for: thin lips, uneven lips, a softer border, or lip lines.
- Results: visible right away, settling over about two weeks, and typically lasting 6 to 12 months.
- Downtime: swelling and possible bruising for a few days.

Questions that help you pick
- Does your top lip thin out when you smile? A flip is often enough.
- Do you want more shape or size? That’s filler territory.
- Is it your first time? Either works. A flip is lower commitment; filler can be done in a small amount.
- Got an event soon? Book filler at least two weeks ahead so swelling settles.
Some people combine them: a flip for the top lip and a small amount of filler for balance. We’ll show you what each would do before you decide.
